No Limits

I’ve been doing a variety of workouts the past few months which keeps my body guessing and keeps me from getting bored. I also find that this method has always helped me to stay in the best physical shape.

Today, instead of taking yoga, which I love and you all know I am obsessed with, I opted for my own workout. Immediately after high school I started working out with free weights, machines, and my body weight, so this is nothing new for me. I’ve just shy’d away from it the last few years, to pursue a variety of other workouts.

It didn’t hurt that I had insane motivation from watching the new Tomb Raider movie last night! Can I just say Alicia Vikander, you are one bad ass Laura Croft! You are the ultimate role model of a strong, courageous, confident women. Yaaaaaaaaasssssss

My workout consisted of a total body workout, because why stop at one or two body parts? I used strength training, free weights, cables, machines, bodyweight, and finished it off with a 3 mile run at my max speed and explosive sprints. Needless to say, I could barely walk or breathe, but that made me oh so happy because I knew I killed it!

We are capable of waaaaaaaaay more than our minds think we are. I know you have heard this a million times, but I prove this to myself over and over again, especially on days where I train this hard. As I was running, my mind kept telling me that my body was exhausted and wanted to stop. Everything is harder, when you train harder. It’s tough to keep your breath steady and your alignment strong. The practice of mindfulness, yes mindfulness, really comes into play. You must keep your mind in check. It takes a sort of mind mastery, to push through extreme challenge and not quit.

I was on the brink of nausea for about a mile, my side started to ache, and my legs felt like jello. I had to mentally tell myself to take deep steady breaths, and affirm that “I am strong and I can do this”. Anyone who runs, knows what I mean. There are all sorts of things that make us want to quit when we are this challenged. You are pushing your body to go beyond what it thinks is possible. But, it can and it will. You just have to tell it what to do, not let your body decide for you. You have to take charge and keep going, even when you think you can’t.

I promise this will bring you incredible satisfaction! It’s an epic display of mind/body strength and determination. You feel unstoppable. And for me, it directly relates to life.

We often deal with challenges, and we are tempted to quit and give up when things get really tough. But the truth is, the very thing we want is just past the point of quitting, just past the point of giving up. So keep going, prove your mind does not have power over you. Get what you want. Finish strong!

It’s Time to Choose

If you have a decision to make, don’t let someone else make it for you. Don't hand over your decision to someone else, just becuase you are having uncertainty and looking for a quick answer. You may think this will make the things easier, but what it really does is set you up for disappointment. I am not saying don’t listen to advice or suggestions, I’m just saying that your decision must come from you, from your heart, that is the only way you will know it is the right one.

For example, have you ever had a decision to make and you didn't know what to do? Of course, we all have. So what do you do? You ask 5 different friends for advice and you get 5 different answers? Now you feel more confused than ever! That’s because people can only give advice based on their life experience and what they would do in your situation. But they are not you. And while they usually have nothing but good intentions, they cannot possibly know what is best for you. When someone has your best interest at heart, they will help you figure things out for yourself. That may come in the form of conversation, or questions, or presenting different scenarios to help you see all the options. But when it comes down to it, you are the only one who can determine what is right for you.

When you have a big decision to make and you don’t know what to do, you feel lost or confused, it’s a good time to stop. Before you start going to everyone you know, reading books and trolling the web or Instagram, just stop. Instead, be still, reflect, write, listen to music, meditate, or take a walk in nature and ask your inner guide to assist you. Your soul knows the asnswer and what to do. It knows what makes you happy and how to deliver it to you. There is nothing too big for it to handle. Your answer may not come instantly, but it will come. Set aside time daily to tune in to your higher self and ask it your question. Your answer could come in many forms, either from a thought or feeling, your spiritual guides, or even through another person. Have you ever had the experience where you were walking down the street and you heard strangers having a conversation, and something they said was exactly what you needed to hear? Boom! How obvious was that.

What you must remember is that you have the ability to make the right decisions. As long as you make decisions from your heart, you can rest assured that they will support your highest good and happiness. I know that it is easy to doubt yourself sometimes, but stop that. Don’t look outside yourself. You have all the wisdom you need within you. Let your decsions come from a place of love, love for yourself and your happiness. Don’t let fear decide, and don’t settle for less than what you want and deserve. The universe would not want that for you, and you shouldn’t either.

If you doubt that you can have what you want, that is a belief to kick. Don’t worry, you got this. We all get off track sometimes. Just get back on. You can change your beliefs and perceptions, getting rid of what no longer serves you, making room for what does.

This takes conscious effort on your part and daily mindfulness. Don’t let your thoughts and emotions run on autopilot. We have been raised to believe that we don’t have the power to change the way we think, or to change our life, but we certainly do. We have the power to create whatever we want.

You can slowly change your beliefs by training your mind. Yes, your mind is a muscle and it can be trained just like any other muscle in your body. You can train your mind to consciously focus on what you want. You can train it to see life in a positive and empowering way. You can choose to believe that good things are always happening to you, that you are blessed, you are powerful and you are abundant. Life is always working out for you and the universe supports you. This will completely shift your perspective of yourself and your reality. If you want your life to change, you must first make the changes within.

If you are wondering where to start, gratitude is one of the fastest and easiest ways to achieve this. By focusing on all of the blessings in your life, you are putting your attention on good things and this creates really good feelings. This will raise your energy and vibration and good things will continue to flow into your life. This flow of good things, will confirm the abundance that is always surrounding you and available to you. Once you are in this flow, it will feel like magic. The things you desire, will show up with ease.

Joy, abundance and love is our natural state. Do you believe this? If not, maybe it is time to examine your beliefs about yourself and life. How would your life change if you did believe this was true? I can promise you it is.

Living In a State of Flow

You know that feeling when you feel totally alive, you are wholeheartedly trusting that a higher power has your back and you know without a shadow of a doubt that everything is working out for you.  You are watched over, protected and cared for.  You are confident, you are sure, you know, you feel ease, energy, fun, full, whole, excited, eager and inspired.  You are on top of the world, your soul is on fire!  You have a twinkle in your eye and you're grinning from ear to ear because you just feel so happy and sure about everything.  You have asked for what you want and desire and now you don't need to figure out how or where or when you'll get it, you just relax knowing that everything will flow to you, and is already flowing to you.  You think back to times when you didn't know what you know now, and when your future was partly a mystery, but you trusted the journey and it got you to where you are today.  You realize that even though you don't see all the details of your future right this minute, it will unfold in the same way that it has in the past, and be an even better version of what you had imagined.  You know that whatever shows up in the future will continuously be a bigger and grander version than you previously experienced.  You wonder why you can't bottle this feeling, and know that if you could, you would be a billionaire because isn't this the feeling everyone wants?  This feeling, my friends, is the feeling that comes from total alignment with your true self and source, from living in the "flow".  In this state, you are completely authentic and living in harmonious balance in every area of your life.

But how do you create this state of flow and how do you hold onto it?  How do you remain in a constant state of flow, especially when what you are seeing or experiencing in your life, is not what you have asked for?  You have to remember that everything in the universe, including all the conditions related to your life, are constantly moving and changing.  Things are constantly happening behind the scenes, forces are working whether you see them or not.  When we have a desire and we ask the universe for something, we have to believe that we are always heard and that universal forces have immediately gone to work to deliver us what we have asked for, or even something better.  It is when we doubt this to be true, that we move out of the state of flow.  When we doubt, we have focused our attention and our energy on fear, worry, and lack.  We have focused our attention on that which we do not want - and we have created a split in our energy.  In this case, part of your energy is on what you want and part of it is focused on what you don't want.  You can understand how this may slow down the process of getting what you want.  How can you possibly hope to get something if you don't believe you will?  Just think about it, do you think that athletes would win the Olympics if instead of believing they would win, they thought they may fail?  Do you think that electricity and the light bulb would have been invented if there wasn't a strong belief and trust in succeeding and in the unknown?  And, what about the most successful and influential people in the world, do you think they got to where they are, by focusing on doubt and fear?  Absolutely not.  The ability to harness your energy and attention on what you want is crucial.  You must train your mind to focus on what you want and to trust that it will show up.  Trust that which you cannot yet see.  Even better, KNOW that what you desire will be delivered to you.  The better you get at this, the quicker your world will change, and the quicker you will receive the things you desire.

This means that you must constantly guard your thoughts, your words, and actions.  All of these components contain powerful energy and can either move you swiftly in the right direction or swiftly in the wrong direction.  This does not mean that perfection is required, we are human beings and we learn valuable lessons from imperfection, but it does mean that we need to remain fully aware and quickly get back on track when we have fallen off.  The longer we remain off-track the faster the momentum will carry us in the wrong direction and away from what we want.  If we truly want to live in a state of flow, we will be diligent about guarding our thoughts, words, and actions, and therefore the focus of our energy.

The beautiful thing about learning to live in the flow is that all areas of your life will reflect this state of being.  Many think that the right conditions or things will provide happiness and fulfillment. And, great conditions are wonderful, but we cannot control conditions outside of ourselves.  Possessions and beautiful things are nice, but they do not provide your state of happiness or flow, YOU do.  Everything in your life is created and flows from the energy you radiate.  Not the other way around.  The more you radiate energy from this state of flow, the more abundance you will create, including beautiful things and wonderful experiences.

Wonderful experiences, beautiful things, success in our own terms, love, health, and happiness, meaning and fulfillment is what we are all meant to have.  Choosing the life you wish to create is maybe one of the greatest gifts imaginable.  Your entire life is made up of choices and you are the creator.  You can continually reinvent and evolve your life in any way you choose.  You are capable of being, doing and having anything you desire.  Once you understand this, the fun really begins.

Health and Well-being is the natural result of living in the flow.  It can bring you to a place of being receptive and connecting to it, this is especially true of practices like meditation and yoga.  The soul lives within the body, and the soul is always in a state of flow.  It is what calls to us and reminds us of who we really are and what we are capable of.  It is that inner voice we hear or that physical feeling we sense.  Realizing this is what creates the desire to live in a body that reflects this higher aspect of ourselves.  And, living in a strong, healthy, body is what makes it possible for us to move through the world with the energy we need to do all the things we wish to do.  It creates good feelings, inspiration, and motivation.  Feeling strong and confident in our own body, helps us show up in the world as our best self.

Love & Friendships are what adds tremendous beauty and meaning to our experience here on earth.  Love is always flowing to us and within us.  Love is everywhere and will always exist.  It moves us to cross oceans, climb mountains and take enormous risks.  Love provides the opportunity to experience depths of emotion that transcend time and space.  It is intoxicating and magical.  It is a precious gift.  To love and be loved, is to experience the strongest most powerful force of all.  Even friendships have the element of love.  Friendships are a beautiful way in which we connect and share human experiences, making them even more fun and meaningful.  Some say that we have twin-souls, and I believe this to be true of both friendships and romantic love.  When you meet a twin soul, you feel as if you have met before and you have an instant connection and chemistry.  You feel incredibly blessed that this person has entered your life and you cherish them and your time together.

Fun & Experiences we came here to experience joy, happiness, and fulfillment. We are the creators of our world and we are here to realize all that we can do, be, and become.  If money was not a factor, what would you do, where would you go, how would you spend your days, who would you spend time with, where would you live, would you have a romantic partner, would you have children, would you learn something new like dancing or how to fly an airplane?  Think about what lights you up and creates fire in your soul.  Think of the happiest times in your life - how can you create those feelings again and create them on a daily basis.  Be as detailed as possible, but don't worry about how or where or when these desires show up.  Meditate on what you want, see them in your mind, feel the feelings of joy you would feel as you experience them, and then thank the universe for bringing them to you.  You could also write a detailed list or create a vision board, and hang it on your wall.  Being able to see your dreams and desires every day, will keep it fresh in your mind and set your focus and attention on it.  Be prepared to experience magic.

Learning and Personal Development without a shadow of a doubt, we are learning and developing every single day.  Sometimes the things we take for granted or don't find relevant at first, turn out to be groundbreaking.  I feel blessed to spend time in the company of people who are willing and open to exploring new methods of learning and personal development.  Conversations with these people are so inspiring and meaningful, they bring new light to the experience of all involved.  Powerful things happen when curious, conscious minds come together.  There is a hunger to learn more, go deeper and experience the grand possibilities of the unknown.  I believe that we attract the experiences and education that we need in order to evolve.  Have you ever noticed how you are drawn to a person, a book, place, or an event, and there is no evident reason? This is our subconscious or our soul's way of providing us access to what we need.  I have witnessed countless extraordinary experiences by listening to my heart and letting it guide me.  There are millions of ways we can learn, grow and evolve, and advice is constantly thrown at us.  It is our responsibility to accept what resonates with us and discard what doesn't.  Your best compass is your own feelings, intuition, and wisdom.  You are here to create your life on your terms, not the life someone else would have you live.  Seek out what your heart craves - and know that you will find it.

Mission & Contribution you have contributed to the world, just by your presence here on this planet.  You were born with gifts, talents, and wisdom, which you will use to find a way to contribute to the world.  Finding your mission or calling is something that will bring great meaning to your life.  It was something I was seeking for years and something that many people find very difficult to pinpoint.  Do not let this discourage you, when the time is right you will know. When you discover it, you will know instantly that it is what you have been searching for.  I find it helpful to apply the same method in regards to fulfilling my mission or calling, that I would with anything else.  Know what you want, and know what you want to accomplish, but don't be too rigid about the details.  Let go to the degree that you allow for any possibility.  Sometimes the way we see it happening in our mind, is not the path that will be revealed.  Many times we cannot even imagine the ways in which we could accomplish what we desire.  We do not need to know when, how or where it will happen, all we need to hold on to is our strong desire to see it manifest. When we live from this place, our actions will be inspired and connect us to the right people, places, and circumstances.  Remain open to any and all possibilities, trusting that the right path will open with ease.

How Yoga and Meditation Changed My Life

Why is the food we eat so important? Because it is an essential component of reaching optimal levels of health, well-being, performance, and even higher states of consciousness. It is a well-known fact, that what we eat impacts all aspects of our health, and fitness, but it also affects our mental and emotional states, as well as energy levels. Food is quite literally energy. Healthy foods, preserved in their natural state, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, legumes, seeds, herbs and superfoods contain the highest source of energy. And, as we know, processed, fried foods, sugar, soda and all those packaged “junk foods” contain the lowest source of energy. As we become more aware of our divine nature, we will desire to live in physical bodies that match our conscious state of being, we will raise our standards and what we consume will naturally evolve, replacing toxic foods with life-sustaining foods, and toxic habits with practices for well-being.

The transition starts with the simple act of awareness. You’ll notice how small changes lead to profound results. It may be hard to believe that simply changing what you eat can fundamentally change the way you feel and how you show up in the world, but it most certainly does, and you will experience it for yourself. For those of you who have already experienced this, you can testify that the physical, emotional and mental changes are truly astonishing. The amazing way you feel, your heightened state of consciousness, and the energetic level at which you operate, will inspire you to stay on course. You will begin to understand food for what it actually is, a source of life-sustaining energy. You will notice the effects of healthy eating on a deep cellular level, as you experience increased energy, greater mental capacity, higher emotional states, deeper inspiration, peace and calm, and improved health and vitality. You will quite literally understand the meaning of the statement "you are what you eat". In my experience, one of the best side effects is a euphoric sense of lightness. When you remove all the junk and toxins from your system, there is nothing left to weigh you down or zap your energy. You feel radiant, alive, and your cells are vibrating at a higher frequency. This defines how food is directly related to your physical, spiritual, and emotional body. When this is your relationship with food, and you understand it’s grand effect, you will want to make choices that sustain your physical and emotional wellbeing.

I grew up with 5 siblings. We were always active and outdoors. We didn’t even own a television. My family was vegetarian, and I would make homemade bread with my mom every Sunday.  We had a vegetable garden and fruit trees. We took family walks after dinner almost every night. From early childhood, I was taught the importance of staying active and valuing fresh air, nature, sunshine and the great outdoors. Whether it was riding dirt bikes, climbing trees, hiking, swimming or a game of tag-n-go-seek, you could always find me outside. In high school, I started running and would run up to 3 miles a day after school. I loved it because of the way it made me feel. I felt alive and free. It was my time. It cleared my head. It made me happier, more confident, and more at ease. Running was also my way of dealing with challenging times. Whether it was friendships lost, heartache or disappointment, it was the one thing I always turned to. Running had a way of bringing me back to myself and anchoring me in the present moment, where I always came to the conclusion that everything would be ok.

My twenties were a time of intense learning, exploration, and self-discovery. I was searching for my identity and my purpose in the world. I was trying to establish what I believed, what was most important to me, and what I wanted out of life. Without truly knowing ourselves, we cannot obtain happiness no matter what we acquire or accomplish. I bought stacks of books, sought insight from those who were older and wiser and desperately wanted to understand life and why I was here. It became my obsession, to figure it all out because I thought that if I figured it all out, I could finally have it all. I could be happy and successful and live the life I had dreamed of as a child. If only I could reach back through time and have a conversation with my younger self, and gently explain that we will never have it all figured out and that not knowing everything is part of what makes life beautiful. Otherwise, there would be no surprise, no mystery, and no joy from experiencing the unknown.

Life is a constant evolution, and with each stage, our beliefs change, as well as what we think is important. What I wanted was a life with deep purpose and meaning. This is what became most important. This evolution was often moments of overwhelm and confusion, followed by breakthrough moments of joy and profound clarity. Being a free spirit, and very independent even as a child, I was now revisiting my past and the beliefs I was taught at home and by society. My parents were determined to instill strong values and to teach me to live with integrity. For that, I am eternally grateful. But the thing I wanted clarity on now, was where I stood now. What were my fundamental truth and beliefs? Who was I now? What was life all about? I was fit and healthy, had a great job, a great lifestyle and loving friends, but something was missing.

Years passed but I remained dedicated to my journey. Through intense growth and self-discovery, I had come to a place where I thought I knew myself pretty well. I knew what I wanted and what was important to me. I had discovered my personal values, along with what brought me the deepest joy and happiness. My foundation was solid. Or so I thought. There was so much to process and just as I worked through one thing, I would transition again. This is how I got to know myself, and how I moved from girl to woman. This is how I discovered my priorities, dreams, and aspirations. I was finally in a really great place. And then, just like that, I experienced one of the most difficult times in my life. Monumental changes took place in both my personal and professional life and almost instantly, my world changed. I went from feeling solid, happy and grounded, to feeling sad and lost. These events directly impacted my physical and emotional well-being and left me questioning everything once more. I had come so far and had gained so much knowledge and insight, but in an instant, my reality changed and it seemed I was back to square one. This hit me hard. I was in shock and somehow surprised by how leveling this experience was. It was very humbling for someone who thought they were rock solid, to discover that I didn’t have the tools to navigate this. This is when I came to the realization that no matter how much we grow and learn, or how much we think we know, we will never be done learning and evolving. There is no point of “arrival” and no time at which you can get too comfortable because that is when the rug will get pulled out from under you and you won’t be ready. Life is a continual process of ebb and flow, this is the only thing that is certain. If we are not fully present and aware, we can find ourselves in situations that leave us completely dumbfounded.

Pain can be crippling but it can also be profoundly transformational. It can take us to revelations in our journey that nothing else could. It forces us to re-examine every part of ourselves while withstanding gut-wrenching emotions. This is where you discover parts of yourself that you never even knew existed. You feel shock, confusion and a crumbling of all you thought to be true. You question absolutely everything, including your sanity. It can bring you to your knees but it can also summon strength that you never knew you had, and present lessons that you will carry with you for a lifetime. It’s like the saying “what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger”. In the months to follow, I held on to anything that gave me hope and strength. I searched for guidance and clarity. Beneath the pain, I knew there was a warrior that would rise to fight for me.

One of my colleagues was a yoga teacher who taught at a nearby studio. On several occasions, she had invited me to join her class, raving about how much I would love it. At first, I was reluctant because I had this idea that yoga was for wimps. I pictured it being a lot of stretching and basically a total bore. Still, eventually she convinced me and I gave in. I remember that first class like it was yesterday. I remember that it kicked my ass. And, I remember the dark emotional state that I was in. Even so, the results were immediate. I was able to escape the worry and chaos of my mind and feel total peace. How was that possible?

That yoga studio became my home away from home. The community became my family. It was a place of love, warmth, and kindness. I felt accepted, safe and understood. We shared a deep love and connection, and it was for certain one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. It was here that I learned to re-open my heart and connect with the world around me. More importantly, I learned how to truly connect with myself and experience self-love. You could even say that the practice of yoga and meditation saved me, during a time when I could have easily been lost. This is where I learned the art of connecting movement with breath and was able to feel true connection with mind, body, and soul. It was a profound realization, in which I experienced the love and presence of a higher power. It was like a warm blanket of love, light, and protection. Tears fell like water. I had never experienced this before. Words can never fully describe the depth and joy of what I felt. In the midst of pain and turmoil I was able to fully trust, let go and even find joy. The beautiful thing about trusting and letting go, is that you feel immediate freedom and release. When you let go of control and surrender to that which is meant to be, you no longer need to worry. And once you are able to surrender, the universe shows up with everything you need, and it’s always something entirely better than what you released. This was not the end, this was just the beginning.

My practice elevated me to a place where everything was beautiful and bright, and all was well in the world, even if it wasn’t. I felt like a different person, who once again, had evolved into the next version of myself. I had new and improved perspective. This was the path to total wellbeing. This is what I had been missing and I didn’t even know it! I was thrilled and beyond grateful that I had found this practice. Grateful to have this incredibly beautiful tool in which to move deeper into my experience and discover all the hidden possibilities within me. I now had the opportunity to create a brand new life. I could start fresh. I couldn’t change the past, but I could create my future. I felt complete freedom. I was flying. My happiness had returned, and I was hopeful and deeply inspired. My transformation was so beautiful and intoxicating that I could not contain it. I wanted to shout it from the rooftops. I wanted to share it with others, so I could help and empower them. I wanted to spread the word, that there is always hope and there is always a way through, even in the darkest of times. When you have journeyed through deep pain and you sense that you are coming out the other side, there is an indescribable joy. You have a newfound love and honor for yourself and for your ability to withstand and conquer anything. You realize that you always had the wisdom, strength, and courage to survive.

Health and exercise have always been an integral part of my life, but yoga and meditation presented a whole new path to heal, evolve and transform. The practice took me beyond my current circumstances, beyond what I could see, and connected me to something greater. It put me in touch with the part of myself that could experience through feelings and intuition. For the first time, I felt connected to a higher power. It was pure love flowing to me and through me. This practice enabled me to navigate a very difficult time in my life, with serenity and grace. And, it was through continued practice, that I became aware of my true purpose and how I could make a difference in the world. I developed deep love and respect for myself and for all living things. My life took on deep meaning. I was overwhelmed with gratitude. This was a gift. I was happier than I had been in years, maybe happier than I had ever been. I was ready for whatever came next, and I expected good things. My heart was wide open and my soul was on fire.
